1.2 Ergonomics Criteria in Text Presentation
Typographic research is the area in which the usability of type is studied. The basic tool of print, the letter, is at the basis of such
research, but type composition is just as much an area of interest. How well usability
requirements are met in type is determined according to three ergonomics criteria:
legibility, readability and conspicuity. It should be noted
that these criteria are not the only criteria that a designer will consider; uniqueness of a
typeface and the economical use of paper may also be of importance to him.
